Solar Tax Credits, Rebates, and Refunds

Federal Tax Credits - The IRS is offering a tax credit for up to 30% of the value of your installed solar water heater, solar attic fan, solar pool pump, or solar electric system, whether it is installed in a new home or retrofitted in an older home. Keep in mind this is not a tax deduction, this is a tax credit, so you get 30% of the total cost back. As of January 1, 2009, the tax credit is unlimited.

Energy Improvement Mortgages - This is a federal loan program from Fannie Mae that applies to the energy efficient upgrading of an existing home through a purchase or re-finance mortgage.

Utility Company Refunds - Many central Florida cities, including Deltona, Deland, Orange City, Gainesville, and Jacksonville, have additional rebates available for solar system purchases. These rebates can be as high as $800. Please contact us to inquire about incentives your utility company may offer. For example:

	Ponte Vedra, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, and other customers of Beaches Energy Services will receive a $500 rebate if they have a new solar water heating system installed by a licensed solar contractor.
	Residential customers may receive a rebate of $1,000 for installing new solar water heating systems, and up to $20,000 for installing photovoltaic (PV) system and interconnecting to FPL's grid. Business customers may receive rebates up to $50,000 per site for installing a new solar water heating system and up to $50,000 per site for installing a PV system and interconnecting to FPL's grid. 	JEA residential customers receive $800 instantly at contract when they purchase a solar hot water heater. JEA commercial users get 30 percent of the total installed cost. Retrofits also receive benefits. In addition, some residential customers are eligible for $1000 from the City of Jacksonville.
	Progress Energy customers in the EnergyWise program are eligible for a $500 credit to their accounts when they choose solar for their hot water heating needs, as well as additional annual credits.
